Thanks to all that attended the meeting.
Firstly we heard about the Master Plan Approval at the City Council’s Community Services Committee. We then had an update regarding the Feasibility Study to investigate best location for City Farm city-wide. Although Cherry Hinton Hall is still in the mix, there are logistical difficulties in delivering the Farm on the old Propagation Centre area – in particular the effect on hosing the Cambridge Folk Festival with a Farm present. Criteria has been agreed to use in making a recommendation for a site, and two consultants have been engaged to begin the search. A decision is expected in June this year.
At the meeting there was also a vote to establish the Friends policy position on having the City Farm at the Hall. The proposal was that ‘We support in principle the idea of a Cambridge City Farm, but are firmly opposed to the Farm being located within Cherry Hinton Hall grounds’. This was agreed unanimously.
There was an update on Policing and various problems from Cherry Hinton PCSO David Jackson, followed by a discussion and review of maintenance issues. The Pond Dipping Platform and Fitness Points have been installed, and we expect new Play Equipment to also arrive this month.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 19 January, at 7.30 pm, at the Baptist Church Centre, Fisher’s Lane, Cherry Hinton.
The guest speaker is local historian Michelle Bullivant, who will present “The Lost Watermills of Cherry Hinton”. We are hoping to include other guest speakers going forward, including someone from the Guide Dogs for the Deaf in March.
If you are attending on the 19th, please bring along a raffle prize!
